Barefoot they walk,

In the cold streets.

Scrounging for food,

In lanes covered with snow.

Some beg,

Some borrow,

Some work (as mere labourers),

Some steal.

No shelter for them to sleep.

Beaten to death by

Merciless Police,

Yet, They do not weep.

Under Dark clouds,

On Dirty streets,

And in the Filthy dump yard,

Is where they sleep.

I collapsed,

To see such a dreadful sight.

Tears rolled down,

I was speechless.

Frozen with fear,

Somewhere inside

I was broken down.

“That could have been me!”

Was all I could think then.

I thanked God, a million times,

For the life he chose for me.

They have nothing,

Yet, they smile.

Their laughter was pacifying.

Sense of Guilt,

Imprisoned my Heart.

I offered my lunch,

To one of the girls

Standing in a long queue,

Waiting with others.

She refused to take food from me,

Told me she wasn’t a beggar.

I asked her what the line was for.

She asked me if I believed in angels.

I was confused,

Had no clue,

What she was talking about.

She held my hand,

And took me to her Angels (JAMGHAT),

Who gave Shelter, Clothes, Food and Education,

To people like her.

How reckless I had been,

In the Past.

All these years that have passed

I have always been the center of my life

And my greed grew off the charts.

I never cared for anything,

Wasted everything that I got.

I realized,

My Life had no meaning.

Seeing this (Jamghat’s efforts) inspired,

My tainted soul

To pledge, that,

I’ll never let the Flames of Hope and Courage

Die in their hearts.

I’ll ignite such fire,

In everyone’s heart

That will restore humanity,

And smiles that will last for eternity.
